Wander and Wonder
February 23, 2012
This is our new geography and this morning as I was driving from Redmond to Sisters, the quiet greatness of a long chain of snow-capped peaks perched at rapture’s edge was a contemplative activity as I drove into the western expanse of blue/white/green/gold.
So far, I just love looking at this scenery from a distance, but wonder if I really need to discover snow? Like, by being in tons of it?
“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, and dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” ~John Muir
I patronized a bakery, a nice thriftshop, and a bookstore. In a recent conversation with a 12 year-old girl named Sonya, she was adamant that I read a juvenile fiction series called “The Hunger Games”. She said I HAD to read it and then quoted the opening monologue from the movie that will be out soon. With a flair for drama, she became an actress sitting next to me in the back seat of her family’s car. It was long and perfectly memorized. I felt an obligation to her enthusiasm for the written word and bought the first book of three.
Wandering along alone I was reminded how much I like my own company because everything can be done just at the speed I want. My 50-cent treasure of the day was a magnet with the word “desire” on it. We just can never have enough of that.
Then, I stopped in our downtown to make sure my new acquaintance had the address of the blog I put her in. She said she has not felt well enough to read it and that she still has a 17 year-old son living at home, who has seen things during her illness that no one should see. Made me think. ~(**)~ Gipsy
